A
rare find in the Alps, this superbly restored farmhouse dating
from 1781 offers the discerning skier a wonderful homely mountain
lodge whilst offering an impressive array of eco credentials to
satisfy even the most environmentally conscious amongst us! Eco
farm has been totally re-built using the original panelling, locally
sourced oak and beautiful Italian limestone, slate and marble.
Even some of the furniture, the doors and window frames have been
handmade using reclaimed wood to enhance the authenticity of the
building. Located in the village of Les Houches, within a couples
of minutes walk to the ski lifts and the bottom of the Kandahar
World Cup ski run, you are right in the heart of the ‘Pays
du Mont Blanc’ and within easy access to all the delights
of the Chamonix valley and satellite ski resorts of Courmayeur,
Megeve or Les Contamines.
From
the outset our aim was to create a mountain lodge that expressed
the quality and architectural heritage of the original building
and offered an alternative to bland, purpose built chalets. We
have retained as many of the original features as possible, exposed
the roof purlins, rafters and have put in Velux windows to allow
the daylight to flood in. We have re-used the original wooden
panelling and installed under-floor geothermic heating throughout,
overlaid with solid oak flooring. The main living and kitchen
area is open-plan offering a wonderful space to enjoy and admire
the views of the valley. The hand-crafted kitchen continues this
style with a grey granite clad work station, stainless gas cooker
and beautiful grey slate flooring. Our luxurious Italian leather
sofa's offer comfy seating around the fireplace.
There is a large hand-made dining table and solid oak chairs providing
seating for 10 guests.
Our
bedrooms have been equipped with supremely comfortable hotel standard
Superking and Kingsize zip lock divan beds (which make excellent
twins) and we have supplied crisp white Organic Egyptian bed linen
and goose feather duvets making the bedrooms warm and cosy.
Eco
lodge apartment is next door which can be combined to offer this
chalet to 14 guests.
